Normally I'd be at work, but we put Little One-Eyed Dog down this morning. Her cancer was aggressive, and it would have been cruel to let her go on like this. And so I wanted to just stop for a minute.
It reminds me of being at the airport, really, only nicer and without luggage. Lots of SWPL types on iPads. And us. Oh, and their bacon, egg, and Gouda sandwich is pretty good.
Go, Starbuck's.
I'm so sorry, buddy. You did the right thing. Decisions like that are part of our end of the bargain between man and dog.
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear of your loss BP, that is probably the hardest part of having animals in the family. . .
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry.
ReplyDeleteThat is a path that we all take. It is never easy.
I'll have you and your lovely bride in my thoughts.
I'm on my lunch break on the eebook and just saw this. It was just a few days ago we talked on the phone about the pooches. I'm so sorry my friend. Comfort Mrs. B. and remember all the happiness the little one gave you.
ReplyDeletePrayers your way for you and the Missus and your sweet dog.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry.
I'm sorry to hear Borepatch. :(
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry to hear of your loss...
ReplyDeleteI had to make this same decision not quite a year ago. My heart goes our to you and Mrs B.
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry for your loss.
ReplyDeleteShould we give our hearts to a dog to tear? We know we shouldn't, and yet we do. My condolences on your loss.
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear about it, BP. Its a hard choice, but a heavy burden is lifted.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry to hear that BP. It's hard to lose a friend.
ReplyDeleteDood. thoughts are with you and your family.
ReplyDeleteI know the pain.
It never gets better, just realize that time will blunt the edges.
It is unfair that they live shorter lives than we do, and that we have to make these decisions.
We are with ya, bro.
I'm so sorry to hear about Little One-Eyed Dog. It's the hard part about being the person for our furry companions. She's not hurting or afraid but the doggy shaped hole they leave in our hearts is forever, but y'all did what was best for her.
ReplyDeleteWow, sorry to hear that. It's a painful loss, but a proper decision made. Great memories made over the years I know!
ReplyDeleteMy sympathies to your family. We had to put down our 14 year old Shepard mix last April. We have his ashes in an urn on a bookcase overlooking his favorite area on the rug.
ReplyDeleteYour faithful companion is enjoying the sun and the doggie treats near the Rainbow Bridge. She'll be waiting for youwhen it is your time to cross.
MAJ Mike
Sorry to hear about this. Sounds like it was for the best.
ReplyDeleteSteve
Sorry to hear this.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry to hear about your loss - they are members of the family, and it can hurt.
ReplyDeleteThank you everybody. It was a mercy at the end when she finally relaxed and her breathing wasn't labored any more.
ReplyDeleteShe was a real hellion, and sneaky, and drove Mrs. B crazy, but she was a sweet dog that was a lot of fun before she got so sick.
I'm glad we were there to do the right thing for her in the end. She was indeed one of the family, warts and all, and it was her due.
Watching it, I thought that if I face that same end, I'd want to go that way myself.
My sincerest condolences... as dogs are truly a better class of people than most...

I'm very sorry for your loss.
ReplyDeleteOur sympathies to you, Borepatch - it's hard to loose a constant companion, for whatever reason.
ReplyDeleteWhen the body that lived at your single will
ReplyDeleteWhen the whimper of welcome is stilled (how still!)
When the spirit that answered your every mood
Is gone–wherever it goes–for good,
You still discover how much you care
And will give your heart to a dog to tear.
Not an easy time, I know. Kipling said it so well!
I'm so sorry, Borepatch. The blessing - and curse - of being allergic to most animals is that we've avoided furry pets...
ReplyDeleteOur condolences on your loss of Little One-Eyed Dog.
ReplyDeleteYou gave him a good life, & that's all that can be done.

Sorry to hear that..
ReplyDeleteBeen there.
I'm so sorry.
ReplyDelete"You, man and woman, live so long, it is hard
ReplyDeleteTo think of you ever dying.
A little dog would get tired, living so long.
I hope that when you are lying
Under the ground like me your lives will appear
As good and joyful as mine."
—Robinson Jeffers, "The House Dog's Grave"
I'm really sorry, BP.
ReplyDeleteThe little furry partners in our lives bring so much joy, and are so much missed.
Sorry to hear that. I''ve been through it myself and it never is easy.
ReplyDeleteI too am posting from Starbucks in support of 2A
Sorry to hear this, you all were good carers of a wonderful dog. HUGS
ReplyDeleteHeaven has a new friend.
ReplyDeleteMay your memories be sweet, and may the sorrow pass quickly.
I am so sorry to hear about that. I hope that you can work through the grief and find your way to bring home another pup.
ReplyDeleteLu and I send you and Mrs. BP our love. I hope Trooper shows her the best spots for squirrel chasing.
ReplyDeleteBP, I am so, so sorry for your loss.
ReplyDeleteLittle One-Eyed Dog sounds a lot like Scooter, our beloved Bichon. We had to put him to sleep this past July. He had cancer as well.
I know that any words of sympathy I can offer will likely be futile, but just know that you gave her many long, happy years, and that she loved you and your family absolutely, with the pure trust and devotion that only a dog can give.
Your and yours will be in my prayers. Hang tough.
I'm so sorry.
ReplyDeleteThat's the hardest thing (I know, having been there twice).
Hang in there.
Our condolences
ReplyDeleteA peaceful and painless death is the last great gift a petowner can give a beloved pet.
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry. Rajah sends purrs.
