CMP Update

Ever want to be an M1 Garand armorer?  The CMP might be able to help out:

Designed for those who wish to take their passion for the venerable M1 Garand to the next level, the Advanced Maintenance Class (AMC) held in Anniston, Alabama, offers students a unique opportunity to receive unparalleled training from our knowledgeable Custom Shop Staff and build their very own M1 Rifle.

RANDOM DRAWING ENTRY WINDOW AND PROCESS

Due to limited spaces and high demand, CMP will hold a random drawing to select participants. Interested individuals may enter the Random Drawing between November 1, 2024 and December 31, 2024.

If this is your bag, baby, then get on over there.

I thought about entering. I had a friend who did it a few years ago and he said it was well worth the money. I was down there last week at the "tent sale". The lines were crazy as were the rifle prices! I had an armload of "stuff" (4-.50 ammo cans $5 ea., one S/S canteen cup $4, 1-fabric Garand strap new $7). There were caps, shirts, books, stocks, barrels, .30 damaged but salvageable ammo cans 3 for $1 but in some cases it would take two to fix one. LOL., air rifles, bags, etc. There were some bargains, but it wasn't hardly worth it One of my friends who was third in the entrance line got in and bought some some stuff. He told me he stood in the "check out" line for over 30 minutes with only two people in front of him. Then there was tow different "pay" lines. The people at CMP are always nice and helpful, but they were overwhelmed at times. I looked at the line and and first thought, I am not standing in line a half a day to save $20 or so. I laid the items I described earlier behind a dumpster and left. This was about 8:30 a.m. I returned about one o'clock and there wasn't hardly anyone outside. I parked and walked straight to the dumpster and there was the stuff I had discarded earlier. I gathered it up and was checked out in ten minutes. Lucky me.
