We have a unit down at work and it is the one used the most. No biggie at the moment since the heat and humidity are on temporary hiatus and we have the windows open. New parts haven't been made in 5 years, so the HVAC service company is trying to track one down. It is the control board for a 16 year old wall mounted Mitsubishi Mr. Slim air handler.
My wife has respiratory problems and needs AC during the hot, humid days. What I did was to buy a small window unit to keep on the shelf, in case of a failure of the central AC or an extended power outage (we were out for 4 days a couple of years ago). A decent generator will run a small window unit.
Neon Madman, exactly the same situation here. Wife has health issues and has to have AC. Four years ago the central AC compressor failed. Bought a large 120V window unit and installed it to get by. When I had a new central AC unit installed, I tucked away the window unit. Since the I have had to drag it out and reinstall it three times due to extended power failures. Transfer switch can't handle the starting current surge of the central AC compressor and trips its breakers.
The way I read NOAA, your hottest day of the year comes between August 1-5 (according to climate normals), so it could be worse! Not much worse, but it could be.

Sorry to hear that. No fun!

This only happens (like all things) when needed, of course...

Hate it when AC breaks down, which it always does when our enemy the Weather hits oven mode. Fans help, kind of. Sleeping porches are better.
