Didn't matter, he was running unopposed. It was a bit of schadenfreude on my part to see the Press impotent.
And it tickled my funny bone that the voters of Georgia rose to the occasion, casting 4,000 write-in ballots for Charles Darwin:
ATHENS, Ga. — Charles Darwin, the 19th century naturalist who laid the foundations for evolutionary theory, received more than 4,000 write-in votes in Athens-Clarke County in balloting for the 10th Congressional District seat retained Tuesday by five-year incumbent Republican Paul Broun. This is a story filled with delicious schadenfreude. Well done, voters of Athens, Georgia.
...
“I can’t ever remember seeing a (write-in ballot) report that long,” Athens-Clarke County Elections Supervisor Gail Schrader said after releasing the write-in numbers to news media Thursday morning.

Was it really a dumb thing to say? If a good 80% of the electorate in his district does believe that evolutionary theory is a lie straight from hell, it seems to me that to get elected he ought to be on board with that. People in NYC don't get to vote for or against him, after all, so who cares if they think he's an idiot.
It's not about getting people outside the group on your side; it's about signalling to those inside your group that you're one of them.
Just wondering how Darwin explains how the eye evolved. Perhaps you can tell your readers how it did.
Some people will buy anything and we have an election to prove it.
Anon, I had to fish you out of the Spam bucket to answer.
Charles Darwin could explain how he was able to convince the entire scientific community that what they thought - literal interpretation of Genesis - was not backed up by the evidence.
Could you answer his arguments? He didn't win with the straw men so typically knocked down.
Evolution may be scientifically wrong, but you're not going to win with the Octopus' Eye argument. You'll need to try harder.
I'm reminded of this Queen of Wands strip....
Yet it's not a good idea to get carried away and make the blog about your family or outside interests. The whole professional vs. personal ratio also has to be calculated with your topic and target audience in mind. If you would think twice before saying something in a phone call or email to a customer, you should leave it out of your blog.
