Well, duh. Kind of makes you wonder why they haven't so far.

  1. Kinda enjoy the role Donald is playing here....the role that biden et al SHOULD be playing.

  2. Given their performance with Trump Saturday, giving RFK Jr. Secret Service "protection" is tantamount to saying you think RFK should be shot.

Whoever is advising DJT's tweets go out needs to pull their head out of their hindquarters.

  3. Why does the word unconscionable spring to mind so often when talking about democrats?

  4. Aesop, DJT took a layup here. The Democrats look bad because he had to say it, and if RFK, jr. gets shot because the Secret Service is nothing but a Charlie Foxtrot, then the Democrats look REALLY bad (and Trump knows he needs to replace them with some tough SOBs).

It's no lose for him, and no win for them.

Your mileage may vary, void where prohibited, do not remove tag under penalty of law.

  5. A generous reading of the law and policy suggests that this is not the fault of the Secret Service, but that it does fall into the lap of the Secretary of Homeland Security.

RFK Jr has been agitating for USSS protection from very early in the campaign. In normal circumstances, his requests would be far earlier than was precedented, but it is understandable (given the current climate and his family history) why he might believe he was justified in seeking an exception.
Those claims of "too early" ring hollow now, so any continued rejection by the DHS Secretary of the request would have to fall under the umbrella of failing to meet criteria #6:
    > Whether the candidate is an independent or third-party candidate for President polling at 20% or more of the Real Clear Politics National Average for 30 consecutive days;

I can't imagine a reasonable person doing so, but 2024 has not been a good year for betting on a reasonable course of action.

  6. I think Kennedy stepped off the plantation once too many times, or he's not the "right" kind that 'needs' protection.

  7. For what it's worth, the Secret Service is now assigned to protect RFK, jr. Good.

It's almost like Trump is President again, making them do things ....

  8. It is worth noting that the reason that candidates are eligible for protection is the assassination of RFK's father in the CA primary.

  9. I get why Trump asked for what he did.

But his ears are obviously still ringing.

What he should have demanded is competent protection for both himself, and for RFK.
Underlining it by saying "Definitely people more competent than my current detail of clowns" would have been the lay-up.

The time for pussy-footing and extending the pinkie at tea parties is past.

It's time to start throwing rhetorical fireballs.

  10. They hadn't so far because they DIDN'T WANT RFK as a candidate. Y'see, you can't control someone as easily when they have a FUNCIONING BRAIN...
