Rest In Peace, Elizabeth II Regina

Dead at 95, the second longest reigning monarch in modern history (behind Louis XIV).  She now rejoins her beloved Prince Philip who no doubt has a gleam in his eye and a prank readied for the reunion.

Her type will not be seen again - wiser and tougher than younger heads of state.  Remember, she learned to shoot at 14 by using Winston Churchill's tommy gun.

May flights of Angels sing thee to thy rest.

  1. A voice of experience and reason has passed onward.

    The world is poorer.

  2. She saw 14 presidents come and go in the US and met with all but one (LBJ).

Remember she volunteered as an ambulance mechanic in WW2 and then drove trucks. It will be hard to think of Charles as King, no wonder she never abdicated the throne, she must have felt the same way.

  3. And to think she passed from this life on the birthday of another famous English monarch, Richard "The Lion Heart" born on this date in 1157AD!

  4. That's one of my favorite "Queen" photos.
I'd like to think that that's the kind of relationship they had.

I have thought that if Chuckles wasn't such an inbred half witted moron, Elizabeth would have retired 20 years ago.

I think she wanted to avoid having Chuckles be king at all cost.

  6. About Richard the Lionhearted. Yeah, not so much. He bankrupted England to support his continental ambitions, spent most of his time not in England, and, well, left John to clean up all his messes.

Not a great comparison other than death days.

  7. Never have had much use for the monarchy, but she just stood out from it. Graceful and revered by many, she somehow seemed to be destined to live and reign forever. And what a living history book she has been!

I just hope the coming ceremonies don't give Biden another chance to be an idiot on the international stage.

  8. Pray for the UK now that Chuckles is "king."

  9. Requiescat in pace, Elizabeth Regina. I always liked that photo.

Having nothing to do with the Queen, but related to Chris and Beans' comments above, I've been listening to some Steely Dan lately:

  10. She was the rock of her people. I think the turmoil of her uncle's abdication and her father taking a duty he never wanted colored her view of her duty and that's why she never retired in favor of Charles. Though until about 15 years ago a worried about his ability to do the job right and not make a mess of it. But I think he finally grew into the job and will do Ok. He'll never measure up to his Mum, but who could. He'll hold things together and I think William and Kate will do fine.
God Bless Her and Long Live The King.

  11. Someone mentioned that her passing was like losing your Granny. I think I agree.

  12. Hey Borepatch;

Thats one of my favorite pics of the Queen, when her husband tried to prank her dressed as one of the guards and she quickly realized it.

She will be missed, she was a stabilizing influence when the Empire was transitioning from an empire to a commonwealth.
