I'm normally a studio-version purist, but there's also a much better version available on YouTube than the stereo LP standard, great as that one is. Live, on a dais with a roomful of country legends, and dropping their jaws with a spontaneous solo: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ETkzK9pXMio The guy was pure guitar genius, on legs. (I'm thinking Willy Nelson's look was "I couldn't do that even if I wasn't high" and Roy Clark was just happy to be there to see it in person from 5' away.)
Not to dispute anything about Glen's greatness, but on a similar path, if you want to see the kid who's being talked about worldwide as today's virtuoso of flatpicking - the technique Glen uses in that video - catch 25 or 26 year old Molly Tuttle. Actually, this video is almost 4 years old so crank that age back.
Good singer, good song.
ReplyDeleteLittle bit of a time lag there, huh? ;)

Witchita Lineman is always the Glen Campbell song I remember.
ReplyDeleteAesop, I posted that version from an outbreak of nostalgia. We had that LP when I was growing up.
ReplyDeleteBut yeah, Campbell was one of the greatest guitarists who ever lived.
