It's bad enough, all the aches and pains that come in your 60s and 70s, but what cranks me most is listening to the 30- and 40-somethings whine about how old and beat up they feel. Grow up, ya snowflakes! What are you gonna do if you REALLY get old?
I have to say, when I started doing the 90 minute workout twice a week with strength training with weights, 90% of my knee and joint issues went away. I didn't do it to lose weight, just build up my support system for all the stuff that's wearing out.
In my learned opinion, after I hit 50 most of the time I am exhausted, wish I hadn't committed to previous plans, and keep wondering how I hurt my back *this time*. TBG

ReplyDeleteBut ...... Alieve. Or. 600 mg aspirin if you have some "left over" in your medicine cabinet.
But the key is. Once the inflammation is down and you start to feel better don't reinjure the back muscle by being stupid.
Lots of pain meds. Backs don't heal until the pain drops off and one stops spasming/twinging in pain.

And once you've done that sort of crap to your back, reinjury's a real possibility. Core exercises help, especially planks "cobras" and sit-ups.

ReplyDeleteAnyway, I'll try again: as a paramedic with 26 years experience, and an average of one back strain per year:
Ice pack to affected area for twenty minutes, heat pack for twenty minutes, rest for twenty minutes.
Lather, rinse repeat while able.
Help a lot, as long as it's a muscular injury.
You may indeed not "like this getting old nonsense", but I hope you would admit that it beats the credible alternative.
