His departures so far have been generally worthy, and some changes are inevitable when translating a book to film, so I'm willing to grant him some leeway as long as he keeps the quality up.
Plus, as I understand it, many of his additions in this trilogy come from Tolkien's related works (Lost Tales, The Silmarillion, etc.), so they should work pretty well on their own.
The things he changes can be endearing:
