A Parable on our miserable political class

It's said that with enough thrust, you can get an Aircraft Carrier up on plane.  Just don't lose that thrust, mkay?

    Displacement hulls can't plane no matter how much you push them.

    Hull Speed = 1.34 * (LWL)1/2

    If you know the hull length at the water line it's easy to calculate the maximum speed of a displacement hull.

    Yup, what Alan said. But they don't need to plane. With all that waterline length, those puppies can HAUL! There's a lot more on the "plus" side of their officially stated speed of "30+ knots". The "little" 505 foot destroyer I was on would do 35 knots. Carriers are more than twice that length...
