Several L-S High parents have forwarded me the text of this email from their principal, Scott Carpenter, letting students and parents know the rules for celebrating “the winter solstice and several cultural and religious holidays.”I was paying almost $1000 a month in property taxes there, two thirds of which went to this idiot's school. Holy cow, I'm so glad that we got out of dodge - I can feel my IQ dropping just reading this gent's email, and I'm a thousand miles away. Imagine how much brain power is being leached away by this guy for the poor sods left there.
The most important rule: “we want to make sure no one feels excluded...[therefore] decorations tied to a religious holiday (of any religion) do not have a place in the public areas in and around our school.”
...
Here: read the email for yourself. Then tell me when Lincoln-Sudbury and the rest of uber-liberal Massachusetts went insane.
'Tis the season to celebrate the winter solstice and several cultural and religious holidays. The tradition of decorating the "senior spot" is a long-held one, and is acceptable as long as certain guidelines are followed. In the spirit of L-S culture, where we want to make sure no one feels excluded because of his/her identification or non-identification with a religious group, we have decided in previous years as a whole school (staff/ student committee on decorations) that decorations tied to a religious holiday (of any religion) do not have a place in the public areas in or around our school.
Please remember if you decorate, that winter scenes, snowflakes, lights are OK; anything connected to Hanukkah, Christmas, or other religious holidays is not OK. Please avoid Santa and Christmas trees, menorahs, stars of David, or other symbols of individual religious holidays. As in the past, decorations may be put up any time after December 15th. Also, prior to decorating, please run your plan by your housemaster.
The Aussies like to (contemptuously) refer to Brits as "POMEs" - Prisoners Of Mother England. Maybe it's time to start talking about POMMs - Prisoners Of Mother Massachusetts?
we want to make sure no one feels excluded
ReplyDeleteOh, heavens no, their feelings might get hurt........Hey you want your feelings hurt, how about some good old military school hazing? That ought to do it.
The Puritans live on I see. "Welcome to America, where we're free to worship our way, and you're free to worship our way too."
ReplyDeleteIt should probably be POM'F'M.
ReplyDeleteIf this is not a "MoFo" move, I don't know what is.
"we want to make sure no one feels excluded" -- that's just another way of saying, "Group consensus will be enforced!"
ReplyDeleteCelebrate the winter solstice only? None of that hokey made up religion / culture stuff?
ReplyDeleteGood!

I lived in Salem for several years. There was a little bit of Winter Solstice celebration every year, and from what I could tell, it seemed primarily to be a Latino thing. It might be amusing for someone to claim non-identification with winter solstice celebration.
ReplyDeleteThey give you the ammunition, you should use it against 'em.
Word verification: defies.
I defies their antinormative behavior.
I am pretty sure the people of Massachusetts are glad you moved away, too:)
ReplyDelete2cents, I'm sure that's true, at least at Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High.
ReplyDeleteWe had the same decision here at LMCO - the traditional Christmas tree in the foyer area of the mezzanine level of the main production building was declared non-inclusive and not put up this year.... PC indoctrination seems to be a prerequisite for the c-suite types.
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas,
Differ
Just saw this when I got back from Solstice shopping. I still have some Solstice cards to write.
ReplyDeleteWho the hell does that idiot think people are? Druids? I love the phony assumption of celebrating the winter solstice -- he's been to many Christmas Revels, I'm sure. That's what they SAY they are celebrating.
The level of pretense is nauseating.
Isn't Lincoln Sudbury where they shut the school down when an empty .22 shell was found? Is the same idiot running the place?
Libertyman, it's the same guy.

ReplyDeleteI'm a POMMIE from across the Pond (aka Atlantic).
ReplyDeleteI've stood in the Church where the very first sermon was preached advocating the move to the New World, a sermon which was the motivational factor for the Pilgrim Fathers to set sail. The Church is in Nottinghamshire and only a tiny plaque on the wall notes the historic value of the building.
I've always thought that the US of A was a Christian country, as are its roots. All other faiths were to be tolerated but the Christian faith took precedence, as in "All one Country under God", not under Allah or any other name.
Why must Christianity or any other Faith be expunged from a time of celebration? Why can't any Faith which chooses to be represented be so?
Why choose to divide when you can choose to amalgamate?
