Back in Austin, at Forward Operating Base Borepatch. 14 ½ hours from Atlanta, which is pretty good. It's also faster than driving with #1 Son, which is strange - after all, you're always fresher when you can trade off drivers. This, BTW, is why airliners have both pilots and co-pilots. Well, that and a million governmental regulations, but you know what I mean.
I think what made it faster was that I didn't stop as much - really just for a gas/comfort break ever 3 hours or so. I didn't drive fast - never more than 10 MPH over the speed limit, so just being disciplined about keeping the wheels turning seems to pay dividends.
But nearly 900 miles in under 15 hours isn't so bad, really. Especially by yourself. Over 60 MPH average, including stops.
But oy, what a day. Posting will be a little delayed today, since I'm pretty wiped out.
My schedule is slowing down a bit. Might try a road trip from Houston out that way to shake yer hand.Let us know what your schedule is!
ReplyDeleteWelcome back to God's Country.
ReplyDeleteMaybe we can put together a blog meet or something this time around. Kx59 and I would sure love to meet you as well!
I'd love to do another blog meet while you're here.
ReplyDeleteI'd love it even more if we could pull in some more folks like CoolChange and Southern Belle.
(Unfortunately, I'll be tied up all next week, but I should be available the week after next.)
The Smarter Half and I love our long distance drives. One early trip covered 22 states in 22 days. Think it was when we were crossing the Rockies in Idaho and she started to sing along with tape of "My Boomerang Wont Come Back" that I decided Yup, this is the woman for me.
ReplyDeleteI'd love to have the excuse to drive over to Austin to meet you, but 2 1/2 hours one way just doesn't cut it when you're trying to stay in a small budget.
ReplyDeleteCurt, I'd love to come up there - if Mohammed can't go to the mountain, and all that. Probably we'll need a "Texas Blogshoot South" and a "Texas Blogshoot North".
ReplyDeleteBut there I go, channeling my Blogfather and getting all Community Organizer and everything.
Loved the way you summed up every detail in just a few lines. catch you later when you are up to mark to post again :)
