Francis G. Janosko, 42, gained access to the names, addresses, dates of birth, social security numbers and telephone numbers of employees working for the Plymouth County Correctional Facility in Massachusetts, according to an indictment unsealed Wednesday in US District Court in Boston. Using a thin client that was connected to a prison server, the prisoner was able to access an employee database by exploiting a bug in legal research software made available to inmates.

The inmate in question is a Level 3 (likely to reoffend) sex offender. But don't worry, it's not like he did much with the hacked accounts:

Once he obtained the personal information of the employees, he made it accessible to other inmates. Janosko also managed to obtain the username and password to a prison management program, and to access the internet to download videos and digital photographs of prison employees, inmates and aerial shots of the prison.

Well alright, then.

Remember, this is the state where the Attorney General discourages self help. We're all supposed to let them do it.

I wonder if they'd do a better jub at keeping tabs on Level 3 sex offenders if they didn't worry so much about illegal jewelry. Just sayin'.

Oh, and Mr. Janosko? Seems that they had to arrest him, because he had been released from prison. But not to worry, I'm sure that the Very Smart People who run the Mass.Gov were confident that he had been rehabilitated.
