This was the traditional method of eating the pudding and is still common in parts of Yorkshire today. Because the rich gravy from the roast meat drippings was used up with the first course, the main meat and vegetable course was often served with a parsley or white sauce.

It is often claimed that the purpose of the dish was to provide a cheap way to fill the diners, thus stretching a lesser amount of the more expensive ingredients as the Yorkshire pudding was traditionally served first.Bobhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11402651457453813639noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6322916946732811685.post-25182949484111003362012-09-26T14:19:01.462-04:002012-09-26T14:19:01.462-04:00"Pudding" = "dessert" in the Q..."Pudding" = "dessert" in the Queen's English.

But only for certain values of "pudding".Jake (formerly Riposte3)https://www.blogger.com/profile/02976718318892210404noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6322916946732811685.post-41688181455556602112012-09-26T01:43:33.518-04:002012-09-26T01:43:33.518-04:00This is ALL just getting ridiculous... sighThis is ALL just getting ridiculous... sighOld NFOhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16404197287935017147noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6322916946732811685.post-60276603497663095972012-09-26T00:49:10.334-04:002012-09-26T00:49:10.334-04:00Bob...The pudding as borepatch observed is dessert...Bob...The pudding as borepatch observed is dessert, so how do you like your spotted dick and custard? Of course, once the kids ate the inexpensive Yorkshire Pud up, there was little room left for the expensive meat. Dessert wasn't typically pudding, either, but more likely a pie.

So it's possible that "eat yer pudding or yer don't get any meat" was intended for US audiences, who understand pudding to be a dessert. If it had been intended just for UK audiences, it might have been written as if you don't eat your pudding you can't have any meat!Bobhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11402651457453813639noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6322916946732811685.post-56777011186140693802012-09-25T21:49:12.213-04:002012-09-25T21:49:12.213-04:00This comment has been removed by the author.Bobhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11402651457453813639noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6322916946732811685.post-971995918262543662012-09-25T19:18:29.841-04:002012-09-25T19:18:29.841-04:00Give me liberty and I'll get my own bacon, tha...Give me liberty and I'll get my own bacon, thank you.
Dave Hhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04813274491601970838noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6322916946732811685.post-72039126462129382822012-09-25T18:48:57.201-04:002012-09-25T18:48:57.201-04:00Give me bacon or give me libertyGive me bacon or give me libertyAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6322916946732811685.post-82332345353487360482012-09-25T18:47:18.643-04:002012-09-25T18:47:18.643-04:00What will be worse is the artificially vcreated fo...What will be worse is the artificially vcreated forth coming bacon shortage thanks to eco creeps bio fuels policy.
