Not sure that that old Enfield is a bargain, but I would get an Expert Garand for $1150. New barrel, new stock, historic. receiver and a shooter right out of the box. I would still stay with 30'06 and not .308 thanks. I think they will still ship to your door without an FFL depending on your state, of course.
I rather like the notion of deer hunting with a historic rifle. This one or something else? Small chance I'll inherit a Garand M1 from my father in law....
