I’ve used a Novasteel ACH Helmet made by Adapt Armor (mentioned in the essay) in the past. Excellent product and so much lighter than the Kevlar/ fiber versions, yet give equal or greater protection. Highly recommend.
But the kevlar isn't as reflective to ground surveillance radar, it doesn't screw up compass readings, and it offers more overall protection from more angles.
You pays your nickel and you takes your chances.
Once you get down to needing the skid lid for personal protection, you're in a very dire place.

ReplyDeleteUse them with the new reactive foam paddings (well, new for 20 years or so) and you'll further reduce damage from a head hit.
ReplyDeleteVery interesting. I'm gonna need to up armor my boonie cap.
ReplyDeleteAnd you can wash up and cook in a steel pot.

So the riddle of steel is answered. Except for being so 'magnetic' as to screw up compass readings. LOL.
ReplyDeleteThe magnetic properties of steel can be addressed either by demagnetizing or by selecting a non-magnetic steel alloy.
