... not as we are, but as we would like to be. Wolfgang is most noticeable by his absence - no greeting at the door when I come home, no canine friend sleeping in his usual spot, no morning greeting when I wake up, no goodnight dog biscuits.
What's worst of all is in the mirror, all I see is me as I am. It sure was better with him.
Friend, bless another Dog with a life well lived.
ReplyDeleteDo it soon.
Wolfgang would approve and when that dogs time is done, they will both be there waiting for you to play again with them.
I waited too long and it's hard to get past that for a new Sadie Hawkins.
We are a 3 dog family and they are staggered in age. Our oldest will be a healthy 10 and the youngest will be 3. We love our dogs and cannot imagine life without them. When one passes on, we still have the others for comfort. And in time, another will join the pack to make the family whole again.
ReplyDeleteWe are lessened when they leave us.
ReplyDeleteNo, my dog used to gaze at me,
ReplyDeletepaying me the attention I need,
the attention required
to make a vain person like me understand
that, being a dog, he was wasting time,
but, with those eyes so much purer than mine,
he'd keep on gazing at me
with a look that reserved for me alone
all his sweet and shaggy life,
always near me, never troubling me,
and asking nothing.
-- Pablo Neruda
I'm so very sorry.
You ok, buddy? You got support? Someone to talk to?
ReplyDeleteGlypto gives good advice. We were a 3 dog home until 2 weeks ago. Got a 7 week old Malinios mutt. The joy of puppyhood! We've had about 11 dogs over the last 46 years, so we are very experienced in grieving for lost canine family members. Cried for every one, and I'm a MANLY MAN!(heh).
ReplyDeleteYou might consider a young or medium age rescue, It's hard to go wrong when you get another doggo. The world can always use some more love.
Hang in there, you'll do what is appropriate.
Yep… the silence is the worst. I’d fire up the tools in the Reclusium, fart around trying to keep busy and not think about…and could almost let go of the mutt’s absence… for awhile. But it was always there when I was done.
ReplyDeleteIt takes time…
Goober, The Queen Of The World has been my rock this week.
ReplyDeleteGlen, yeah - keeping busy helps. Until you're not busy.

Get a dog. You need to give another companion a life with you.
