Who knew?

Pretty much everyone knows that there was Napoleon.  A lot of folks know that there was a Napoleon III who was defeated by what became the German Empire in 1870.

What I hadn't known was that there were a lot more Napoleons.  It seems that Napoleon VI was a hero in the French Resistance in World War II.

  1. Louis-Napoléon, who was Napoleon IV to the Bonapartists, sheedaddled to England as the Franco-Prussian War went south. He integrated into English society, even with some thought by Queen Victoria that he could marry her daughter Beatrice and return to the French throne, cementing the two country's relations in the process.

However, prior to all, that he joined the British expedition to fight in the Zulu wars and got killed in a small engagement.
