To me, the data collection and sharing discussed in the Citizen Labs article (link in linked article) are effectively spying on the user, or intentionally poorly designed to allow spying, so the end result is the same.
The app may or may not be spying, but of course the Chi-Coms are spying on all foreigners.
Remember your manners when you post. Anonymous comments are not allowed because of the plague of spam comments.
