The Carpenters - (There's No Place Like) Home for the Holidays

Perry Como had perhaps the biggest hit singing this but The Carpenters version is my favorite.  Her death is one of the great tragedies of the music world.

  1. Yes, what a voice. I remember how clear it was listening to Carpenter records in the 70s.

  2. Agree. Hera and Andy Williams' are the best voices that came along imo

  3. It was anorexia that got her wasn't it? Or am I mixing up my celebs?

  4. Glen, yup that was what did her in

  5. Yep, anorexia killed her. The 'need' to be skinny and perform because it was 'expected'... sigh

  6. It is a funny thing Borepatch: The Carpenter songs are very distinctive and memorable at the holidays, but they are not "the Christmas" music I associate distinctly with the holiday. For The Ravishing Mrs. TB it is Johnny Mathis; for me it is Bing Crosby (My mother had the record. She played it every Christmas).

  7. Easily our family's top-favorite Christmas album. We have owned every format since the original release, (vinyl, cassette, CD, now in The Cloud,) and replaced some because we wore them out. It's not Christmas without the Carpenters.

  8. If you don't have that album, good luck finding it as a CD. Maybe I will get my turntable out again!
