12 years of blogging

12 years ago today I put up my first post.  It wasn't very good, but you have to start somewhere.

13,615 posts later, here we are.  I couldn't have made it this far without you, Gentle Reader, or your over 50,000 (!) comments.  It's quite a community we have.

I'd also like to thank co-blogger and Brother-From-Another-Mother ASM826 for keeping the lights on around here.  I almost gave up, back 5 or 6 years ago, and he pretty much single handedly saved this blog.

I'd also like to thank co-blogger and Sister-From-Another-Mister Brigid.  She doesn't post here a lot, but she sure classes the place up when she does.

Twelve years ago I wasn't sure what to expect at the start of the trail that brought us here.  I am very grateful to all y'all who have walked it with me.

  1. Not sure I was there at the very beginning, but glad and thankful we have crossed paths.

I have learned a lot, and I appreciate the time and effort that it takes to do this. And the courage to express views that not everyone politely agrees with.

Keep up the good work, it makes a difference.

  2. Congrats! Keep up the good work.

I find blogging to be a good way to get the angry or crazy thoughts out of my head. (But maybe that's just me.)

  4. I think any of us fellow bloggers understand how big an accomplishment 12 years is. Blogging years are worse than dog years. 12 years IRL is like a hundred years blogging.

Congratulations! Been reading you for most of that, 11 for sure, maybe more. And ASM826 back on his old blog.

  5. Thanks for all your work and please keep it up. I was concerned when your personal issues almost ended this blog a few years ago. Yours is the first stop on my daily prowl of the internet.
    Thanks again

  9. Your blog is only a year older than mine?

Wow. I always thought of you as the Grand Old Man of Blogging, complete with gray beard.

    Anyway, congrats.

  11. @ Borepatch.
    Ahem, step aside youngster.
I started blogging in March of 2006.
    Lol!
My most heartfelt congratulations to you!
As SiG above mentioned, twelve years of Blogging is equal to a geologic age in real life. Untold MILLIONS of blogs have come and gone in that time span.
You have to be stubborn to go at it that long.
As an example, I just posted for the 365th day in a row on mine just this morning.
Keep after it BP, by golly someone has to do it and you do it well!

  13. Thank you!
    I check in every day.
The blog helps maintain a positive outlook on our society.
And thanks, again, for the ongoing musical education.

BTW, since you have moved to Florida I am assuming you either already have an emergency generator or are planning on setting one up.
Perhaps you could prevail upon SiGraybead for assistance/recommendations?
I installed one for my dad, and it is comforting to have that kick in and take over when the power goes off.
Propane is the way to go if you can put in a big enough tank. The one I installed consumes two to four gallons per hour.
