"Remember that the people that hid Anne Frank were breaking the law and the people that took her to the camps were enforcing it."
Warms the cockles of me heart.
Genius. So if you drive off grid, and get out of the car, you're stranded.Effing brilliant!Chop down the cell towers, and keep the tofu-slurping liberal snowflakes trapped in their hellholes with the unwashed!I'm waiting to find out Elon Musk builds the same tech into the Mars Lander, the astronauts go out of radio LOS, and die because they can't get back inside their craft.Wait and see.#thatfacewhenyourcarwasdesignedbyapothead
As Ted would say, this wasn't an afterthought -- it wasn't thought of at all.I am leery of my "low tech" key fob, having driven 10 miles from home without it,shutting the car off, and by some miracle started it again to drive back home to get it.
Fortunately, Tesla doesn't make guns.
My 14 year old Ford has power windows, three of which work, two cup holders, inconveniently placed, a cigarette lighter, a CD player, no "head's-up displays," no satellite trackers, and a locking gas cap (aftermarket addition.)My old road warrior also has a key to start it, and a key to open the doors.Tesla, eat your heart out!
"So if you drive off grid, and get out of the car, you're stranded."Aesop, that's already happened in 2017. https://www.telegraph.co.uk/technology/2017/01/16/tesla-driver-stranded-desert-smartphone-app-failure/He left his keys at home on purpose, to test out the app, took a drive, and got out of the car in a place, only two miles from home, where he had no cell service. Had to walk two miles to where he had coverage so he could call someone to go home and get the keys. (Actually it's worse than that--his girlfriend or wife did the hike.)
Only a fool relies 100% on the app. Tesla provides a credit card that will get you access to the car. Always carry that. Plus, they sell a key fob that will allow you to use the car.
