Glock vs. 1911

I guess the debate is over.

  1. There's no debate.

Glocks are fine, they are the Toyota pickups of the gun world. 1911s are fine too, they are the '68 Mustangs of the gun world. They fill different niches.

If I was carrying a handgun as a job requirement, I would be carrying a Glock (or whatever modern polymer gun my employer mandated).

If I'm going to the range to shoot a match or practice, I'll take my single stack 1911 every time.

  4. I'm no fan of Glocks, but I don't see the point that Sal is trying to make.

I'm thinking that they wouldn't be paying for a basketweave finish on a Glock, so it's probably a retention strap (thumbbreak?) of some sort over the rear of the slide.

  7. The science was settled for me by my training classes. Instructors were agnostic about Glock vs 1911. But I never saw a Glock ( or S&W or Beretta, or Ruger, or SiG or Springfield or even the one Taurus I saw) malf. But almost every time I was at the line I saw a 1911 do that. They have gotten more reliable in recent years but still don't meet my standards.
