Compliments To All

We didn't agree and it looks like we aren't going to, but we did pretty well staying on topic, keeping it civil, and airing out our points of view. All of us are looking for what seems the best way forward for the country, how to do the most good with the least damage.

I suspect there were similar discussions sitting around the fountains in Rome in last decades of the Republic.

At least for this blog, for now, I am moving on to something else.

This is a distinguishing difference between conservative and progressive discussion venues, at least those I frequent. Conservatives, while of course being imperfect beings, are better at disagreeing without demonizing.

Tim, we have to - most of us have family and friends who are liberal and so "agree to disagree" is an unavoidable part of our lives.

ASM826, I think that the end of the Roman Republic was because the Romans *couldn't* have disagreements that didn't lead to blood. Sulla's self-declared epitaph was "I never had a friend or an enemy who I did not repay in full"

Thank you for allowing a forum much like what we once had in America. Learned and heated discourse, followed by drinking or at least acknowledging one's opponent.

Debate used to be one of the treasured things about this country. Many foreigners came here and commented lots about our national willingness to discuss everything at anytime before doing anything. (But, once we decided to jump, we used to JUMP!!!)

Again, thanks. Nice to be able to discuss and disagree without worrying about getting firebombed or protested while eating out.

Bens, it's been quite a while since this blog has had a discussion like the comments to the last posts. Over 70 comments and as you say people disagree intelligently and passionately without hating each other. I couldn't be more pleased about this outcome, which speaks well about the readers here.

Washington, Jefferson, and a host of others would be smiling at this blog, thinking their legacy was still standing. The weighty hands of history rest on your shoulders for a fine job of moderating.

I come from a progressive liberal family. There will come a time when you can't agree to disagree anymore. That is why their families fall apart, that is why their kids become addicts, that is why their parents divorce, that is why we have so many raging hormonal old cat ladies and lonely old men around. Drugs are only one facet

From here on out boys, it isn't about agreeing to disagree - it's about agreeing to hang separately.
