A Nice Range

Went for a walk on the ranges after a meeting last night. It was after sunset but not quite dark. In what used to be called the gloaming.

Here's the view looking back at the benches on the 200 yard range.

That's a really nice looking range. Ours is more scrub and palm trees. That looks like it might even be good protection from cross winds.

Which compass direction is that looking? That view would be looking east on my home range.

Got fond memories of shooting a steel target on that range.

I'm looking west. Which means you are looking into the sun when you are looking downrange in the morning. It makes the Garand Matches more challenging on sunny days.

ASM826 - mine is laid out east shooting west so we get the sun in our eyes late in the day - a good reason to get there early and go home by noon or so. At 600 yards the amount of change in drop between shooting west and east isn't that much, but the moment your round leaves the barrel, the target shooting west is coming toward the bullet (at a speed that depends on your latitude) and the target when shooting east is moving away.

Since it's not part of regular life, I never wrote down the differences, but I don't think it's much but it is measurable. I found it interesting that effect made a difference.
