There Is No Other Target

We had all sorts of targets. Paper pistol silhouettes on stands. Shoot-n-sees at 25 and 50 yards. SR-1 military targets on backers at 100 yards. We shouldn't have bothered.

We spent the day shooting a steel plate at 100 and 200 yards. With everything. Garand. Mosin. Thompson 25.06. Savage 300 Blackout. Remington Model 81. 1911. Ruger Blackhawk.

Not that the pistols would hit it every time. But ringing that steel plate with a 1911 or a .45 Colt carbine brought a smile every time it dinged.

I've shot not of my game, from moose on down to coyotes - with the 25-06. I've killed big game with 308s, 303s, 7mm mag, and I've seen my buddies do the same with other calibres... And for some reason NOTHING seemed to kill them better than the 25-06. Mine was a heavy barrelled Ruger No.1.
I almost cried when the velocities fell off and it started to spray it's shots. I didn't have the heart to rebarrel it either.
