"High-tech jobs that Americans won't do"? Interestingly (but unsurprisingly) the word "Disney" is not to be found in the article. What is found there is uncritical parroting of a Trade Group's cherry-picked data and report, a (likely intentional) conflating of legal and illegal immigration, and a stubborn refusal to accept that correlation does not imply causation.New MassTLC study richly documents how newcomers grow the economy, cause less crime than natives, and do high-tech jobs that Americans won't do.
What is really interesting is that essentially all of the comments take Gillespie to the woodshed, basically making the same complaints that I make.
If Reason can't even convince its own libertarian audience on this, then it is stuck in a deep pit of fail.
Pick up Ideas and Discoveries (ID) magazine instead. Intelligence without the politics.
ReplyDeleteSome libertarians actually have more than two brain cells on the subject:

Reason was interesting, back in the '80s.
ReplyDeleteEven as a man with strong libertarian leanings, I can clearly see the massive problems stemming from illegal immigration.
ReplyDeleteNot the least of which are those that I constantly find my lefty friends ignoring whenever the topic comes up, which surprises me since they are usually very much about protecting the little guy from the big mean corporations. The illegal immigrant is very much the "little guy" and his status ensures that he gets none of the protections a legitimate worker would get.
Yet they still choose to do nothing, even in the face of this abuse and pseudo serfdom put in place by the current broken system.
