What's astonishing is that this is actually more favorable coverage than the MSM gave Trump last fall during the election campaign:A mere 3 percent of reports about President Donald Trump that aired on NBC and CBS nightly news were positive, according to analysis by the nonpartisan press research firm Media Tenor. The report found 43 percent of stories on NBC and CBS about Trump were negative, while another 54 percent of reports were considered neutral.
A whopping 91 percent of news coverage about Donald Trump on the three broadcast nightly newscasts over the past 12 weeks has been 'hostile', a new study finds. What I find most interesting is that none of this matters - the public so distrusts the MSM, that if there is any effect, it very well may help Trump:
Americans' trust and confidence in the mass media "to report the news fully, accurately and fairly" has dropped to its lowest level in Gallup polling history, with 32% saying they have a great deal or fair amount of trust in the media. This is down eight percentage points from last year. That one is interesting, because it shows the party affiliation of the responders. 14% of Republicans trust the media; 51% of Democrats do. Negative reporting can't move the needle there (although it's interesting that 49% of Democrats do not trust the MSM).
And so I find that I've tuned out the MSM entirely, other than as a source of bemused look at what they're doing to themselves.
When you quoted, "...32% saying they have a great deal or fair amount of trust in the media." I was thinking, "why so many?" Then I saw the breakdown by party. Yup, straightforward rule of mixtures calculation.
ReplyDeleteI've come to not trust any of the media. Fox isn't substantially better than anyone else, they just have a few hosts in prime time who lean right. They also hire people who give doctrinaire leftist views (Marie Harf and others) so you get a constitutional or libertarian view less than 10% of the time.
