We had one show up about a week ago and dug like crazy on a birch tree about 15 feet from the back of the house. The wood chips were flying!!

Very, very cool. It's been many years since I've seen one of those big hole makers. They don't hang out in my neck of the woods (SE Alaska), but I remember hearing their distinctive sound from a boyhood in the forests of Michigan.
