It's Presidents Day

When I was a boy, we celebrated President's Day in school. Washington and Lincoln were always highlighted. We would do tracings and cut out relief drawings from black construction paper.
We learned facts about Presidents, dates, major decisions. It was certainly cleaned up, scandal free, and always with an eye to the Destiny Of The United States as the leader of the Free World. If there were alternative facts, we didn't learn them.

The concept that perhaps the southern States had the right to secede would not have been discussed. The Trail of Tears? The idea that the Louisiana Purchase had no validity because it wasn't French territory to sell? The Banana Wars? Lincoln as The Great Emancipator a tyrant that caused the deaths of hundreds of thousands of people?

There's lots of decisions in the last 240 years that don't stand up to a lot of scrutiny.

This is still the last best hope on the planet. Where else would you want to go?

Happy President's Day.

I remember when Lincoln's Birthday and Washington's Birthday were not celebrated together...

Yep, used to be TWO separate celebrations. I remember quizzes and getting a cookie or something similar if you got the questions all right.
