I got 29800 (top 0.15%), and I've seen 1 score higher than mine but lower than yours. I'm guessing you got all correct, the one that scored around 30200 (top 0.12%) missed one of the very hard words, and I missed either one of the not so hard words or a couple of the hardest.
I are not a pro writer, though. I just remember some of my GRE studying.
I've not yet taken the test, but while I can be verbose, my expectations compared to you, Tam, Brigid,Peter, Paul and the other blog intelligencia will probably be laughable! Will advise post test.
I scored 29975. Top .12%. If that is accurate humanity is worse off than I thought.
I figured the score was deliberately exaggerated to encourage result sharing on social media.
For comparison, I went back and selected the top-most answer for each question and scored 2275, last 22.75%. Answering A on every question gets me into the second quintile..I guess that sounds about right.
Also over 30k, and that coupled with the answers everyone else is posting makes me think this test is seriously biased to the high end. I have a good vocabulary, but am I one in 1k? I seriously doubt it.
You all might be surprised. A lot of people don't know the definition of synonym or antonym - which essentially turns it into a guessing game. But yes, it's is designed to shift right.
Same as BP and Tam. So why do I struggle so much to find the words to express myself. I don't believe this test really reveals much in the way of your usable vocabulary.

You used the term "geez". That should rate a demerit of some kind... LOL!!
ReplyDelete22800... I feel stupid...

ReplyDeleteBurt, heh.
I got the same score as you, BP. Hmm; sounds like I need to up my ante. :)
ReplyDeleteI got 30150. Top 0.01%. Not bad for an old Marine.
ReplyDeleteI'm curious what 350 words you and Tam know that I don't. Could we get a list, please?
ReplyDeleteAs an aside, I suspect this test could be fairly accurate within a standard deviation or two of the mean but it falls down out at the edges.
I tied with ASM, given that there is no hope for Medical school. oh well. i can always run for president.
ReplyDelete29,450
ReplyDelete29,625 second try.
ReplyDeleteNot bad for an old Greasemonkey.
Same as BP and Tam. Apparently we're outliers... but, then, most people who write for fun are going to be outliers, no?
ReplyDeleteGuffaw: I didn't see any handy download thingy either, so I did a screenshot and cropped down to the interesting bits.
31,500, which as near as I can tell from everyone else I've seen take it, is the max... And a lot of their synonyms and antonyms are pretty iffy.

ReplyDelete29775. I know a lot of terminal-degree words (ranging from obscure to deliberately obscure to useless), though.
