Chet Baker & Paul Desmond - Autumn Leaves
I've been busy. Life's been loud, but for once in a good way. In the meantime, the leaves are falling at Camp Borepatch, so here's some autumn jazz for the occasion.
I don't think that I have heard Paul Desmond and Chet Baker together before. Of course, I am not just a jazz listener. I listen to a broad range of music, from classic 70's rock to Latin pop.
I am a reformed Sax player myself having played professionally for a few years in the early 90's. I play most instruments just well enough to get into trouble.
I never will forget the time in the 70's when I got to see Woody Herman and the Thundering Herd live and go to a clinic with his Sax section in the afternoon beforehand. This was in high school. It was unforgettable. In the 90's, I got to do the same thing with the Sax player from Chuck Mangione's band, Chris Vadala. It was at a jazz fest at a college in Michigan. I think I learned as much from these two clinics as I did from all the jazz instruction I got in high school band. These guys really know their stuff. And they are more than willing to share it.
I am willing to bet that the musicians of old were like that as well.
On a side note, I have heard Paul Desmond play Take Five on Sax, Clarinet, and I think it was the alto clarinet.
