A Poster and a Question

Here's the poster:

Here's the question: Where's Luke?

Han's there. So is Leia. Chewbacca. R2-D2. C-3PO.

In the trailers, too, no Luke.

My prediction, which I have been sharing for a while, is that Luke is the Sith. The bad guy in upper left corner of the poster.

I posted it here so if it turns out I was right, I can date it. The final piece for me was in the new trailer, where the Sith is talking to Darth Vader's burnt helmet, "I will finish what you started." The very sort of thing a son would promise his father.

I'm gonna be that guy and say "no way in the Nine Corellian Hells." Reason being that Luke spent the last third of Return of the Jedi trying, and ultimately succeeding, to redeem Vader and bring him back over to the Light Side.

Plus, Kylo Ren, AKA the bad guy in the upper-left of the poster, is being played by Adam Driver. And we see him with the mask off towards the end of the trailer. Granted, it's from the rear, but he's tall and has longer, dark hair, whereas Luke is shorter (too short for a Stormtrooper, remember) and has sandy-blonde hair that's probably gone gray.

The poster is mostly blues and reds. Pulling Mark Hamill on it would introduce too much purple and green, I guess.

But yes, it does seem like a significant omission. Puzzling. I doubt Mr Laser Crossguard (not a bad idea, really) is a Skywalker, but I also haven't seen any of the trailers. I'm only starting to get interested now. The poster makes me curious to see where they're going with this.

Yeah, that is strange... but I don't think Luke is the Sith...

Respectfully beg leave to differ. I think Luke is in the last trailer. Check about 1:40, when the hooded figure touches R2D2's dome with what appears to be a mechanical hand. Something is up with Luke, but not sure what.

Look at the center of the poster, on Hans Solo's shoulder, exactly where you would expect to find Luke. There is a man with a fuzzy face which might be Luke, dressed as an XFighter pilot, just like Luke was in the very first film....

I have heard chatter that says Luke is the Yoda figure of this iteration.

Ken,

one thing, though, is that Luke's hand was covered with artificial skin, unlike his father's. For the hand from the trailer to be Luke's he'd've had to have replace the hand. That's not impossible to have happened, of course.

Interesting. Who but Luke would have Vader's helmet?

This is a pagan, yin and yang cyclical view of history. I suspect later on we will find that the republic has replaced empire has replaced republic, repeatedly through time, in this "galaxy long ago and far away".

"But the Jedi are pure and righteous". Weeeeell. Remember when we encounter them first, chronologically? In the first prequel, Obiwan and Whats-his-name are sneaking onto a Trading Federation ship. Because? Because they're conspiring to evade taxes. Sounds a bit dubious to me. But, food shipments to the masses on Coruscant, and the mass public entertainments, need to be paid for somehow. Speculation, but maybe we weren't in the place in cycle of history we thought we were.
