70 Years

On February 19th, 1945, Marines from the 3rd, 4th, and 5th Division assaulted the island of Iwo Jima. In the next 36 days, 6,800 of them would give that full measure.

Here are some of the survivors in their own words.

Yeah, my Internet almanac mentioned the battle - as though it was resolved in one day!

I was fortunate to be at a Marine Corps League meeting where they had a round table with seven Iwo Jima Vets.

I skipped class to be there.
When I told my professor the next day, he said that I should have told him and he would have cancelled class and come with me.
