Heinlein's Address to the Naval Academy

Bob, who writes at The Drawn Cutlass, left a comment that deserves it's own post. Writing about my post on the Birkenhead Drill, he referenced Robert Heinlein's 1973 address the U.S Naval Academy.

I'm not going to cut a quote out of it, I'm just offering you the link. Bob linked to the speech on Phrost.com, so I will do the same: http://www.phrost.com/blog/society/the-pragmatics-of-patriotism-robert-heinlein/.

Thanks for the h/t. The Pragmatics of Patriotism in its entirety can be found in Heinlein's book Expanded Universe, along with short stories, polemical writings and miscellaneous commentary. Heinlein stipulated that the book was not to be published outside the United States, believing that one doesn't air dirty laundry in public, and he had some harsh things to say about his countrymen in the book. It's worth the price for The Pragmatics of Patriotism, if for no other reason.

It's still applicable today, if not more so...
