Boy, I'm glad I moved to Georgia

It looks like New England is going to get pasted:
Serious impacts from Winter Storm Juno are expected in Boston and the surrounding area early this week. A blizzard warning has been issued for the city of Boston and eastern Massachusetts, with much as 2 feet of snow being forecast.

...
"We're anticipating a really serious event here," said Peter Judge, spokesperson for Massachusetts Emergency Management, in an interview with The Weather Channel. "We're going to work hard to reach out to folks and make sure they understand the severity of this event."

...
The Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency is on standby to co-ordinate support for coastal evacuations if necessary. The agency says that it is also ready to assist stranded drivers, provide shelters, and coordinate debris removal and utility restoration.
"This is [a] dangerous and life-threatening storm and mariners should return to port by Monday afternoon," the release said.
Airlines cancelled nearly 2,000 flights for Monday by 5 a.m. as the storm takes aim at the North East Travelers to check with their airlines before heading to Boston Logan International Airport by Massachusetts Port Authority officials because airlines are cancelling flights ahead of the storm and delays are likely.
I did my time up there.  Happy not to need this anymore.

Good luck to everyone still up there.

  1. Yeah, it's looking pretty bleak in NY too. Locally they're calling for 2-3 feet, and Coast Guard sector NY is dragging their feet about shutting down the port, so I'm praying like hell we don't get a cargo fixed this morning, or I'm going to be out in it.

My company's port captain (boss de tutti bosses for vessel captains) sent an email ordering us to double our mooring lines and 'dip the eyes' which means that there's a storm surge forecast, too.

It's in the 70's at my house today. But I'm not at my house today.

  2. Be kinda hard to horse a snowblower around with one working shoulder. Not to mention shoveling.

  3. I'm sorry, winter storm what? I don't acknowledge TWC's ratings-mongering.

  4. Hmm. Just a quick check of the android phone app -- yep, 62 degrees here in Dallas.

I think I do like living in the South.

  5. It still irritates me to know my dad didn't buy one of those until all 6 kids had moved out...

  6. Mine is gassed and finally got off my fat ass and started it last weekend. Fired on the second pull.

They are backing off the "nothing we've ever seen before" hype and now it sounds like it will be a pretty ordinary 8-12 inch snowstorm here in the NJ/NY metro area. It is going further east than they originally forecast.

Long Island and New England may still get clobbered pretty good.

  7. @3boxesofbs, I almost posted something like that to FB this morning ("it's kind of cold this morning...I faintly saw my breath when I went out to walk the dog") but decided not to since my sister, who still lives in MA, hates it when I do that.

  8. Yep, college has already been called off for tomorrow. They say 8-12 inches tonight, it is snowing now. Light snow, but windy and cold - about 18 degrees here now.
"Snow emergency" declared already in Massachusetts.
We'll see how we do tomorrow.

  9. "The Road" will be fun in the am. Got the 5' blower attached to the tractor this afternoon; that'll blow it into next year.
