Sturmgewehr 44

Abnormalist wants a Sturmgewehr 44. The first modern assault rifle, developed by Germany during WWII, and luckily not made soon enough or in large enough numbers to affect the outcome on the battlefield. It is chambered in 7.92x33, a shortened version of the 7.92x57 (8mm Mauser), making it developmentally the forerunner of all the intermediate cartridge weapons that followed.

This is a wartime weapon. Stamped steel, heavy parts, roughly finished. But it is also a breakthrough development, effective out to 400 yards, select fire, magazine fed, much about this is modern enough to still be deployed. As recently as 2012, a cache of the STG44s was reported in Syrian hands and in use.

There are a few of them in private hands with paperwork to make them transferable. The one I found was going to sell for over $100,000.

That's a big part of why I have always like the STG44...

It was the ORIGINAL assault weapon. The genesis from which every other was derived.

Part of it is also that they got it so close on the first real try, that aspects are still obvious on everything modern.

Mag release location and safety? Yep, AR stole em
Basic operation? Yep, AK
Cartridge? Yep, everyone's stolen the idea....
Inline operation? Yep, AR again
