Gran Torino

It's likely all of you have seen this movie, but if not, Gran Torino is well worth the time. Where do you stand when your job, your health, your family, your faith, and your country have all gone AWOL? I think this is one of the finest movies of the last 20 years. Cameo appearances by an M-1 Garand and a 1911 handled relatively realistically by Clint Eastwood is a bonus.

Hadn't seen it. A little under the weather right now and looking for things to do between bouts, so have rectified that deficiency. Good recommendation. Thanks

One of the things I liked about Eastwood's character in "Gran Torino" is how accurate his portrayal was. My father and most of his friends were similar (vets of WWII and Korea) in that many were a little on the gruff side, used non-PC pejoratives freely and (mostly) without malice, but would give of themselves unstintingly. Because that is what men did.

They gave whatever the situation needed, not in expectation of reward or return favor, not because they wanted to be noticed - they helped because of what they had been through. They believed that everyone needs that hand up, or kick in the ass, at some point in their lives. They believed that they survived their war because of others, some of whom died helping.

It's a great movie, yes.

Chris, good comment.

I would just add to say, even when they speak politically correctly they are holding something back. In my fathers case not from malice but from a pretty fair understanding of how the world works.
It hasn't always been easy for me to see that.
