  1. Why spoil such a sublime game with something as mundane as rules?

  2. 1. Dying on the field is for losers, and will be heavily penalized.

    2. Whining because some opposing player cleated you in the face is for pussies, and will be heavily penalized and you will be mocked on the instant replay.

    3. If you can't follow our rules, go play Metric Football like all the other whiny little girls.

  3. I think the biggest difference between actual warfare and Australian Rules Football is the lack of armored vehicles and a total lack of air support. In Australian Rules Football that is.

But wait, in warfare it's actually okay to leave the field if you get injured. Not so much in Australian Rules Football.

  4. It's Australian "Lack of Rules" Football. Who needs rules when the umpires are wearing butcher outfits and pretend to draw six-guns when anyone scores!

  5. The umpires don't look like that anymore. They even have females umpiring.

The game does not stop for injury, unlike in rugby.

There are rules of course. Quite complex ones.

The development of the game is covered in noted historian Geoffrey Blainey's A Game of Our Own. Claims have been made that the game was originally inspired by Aboriginal games, but Blainey tends to discount that theory.

  6. Female goal umpires I mean. I have never seen a female field umpire.

  7. It's simple, really. You score by kicking the ball in-between those two white posts at the end of the field. In order to get the ball close enough to score, you can move it down the field by kicking, by running (but you have to dribble, like in Basketball) or by passing, but you can't throw the ball you have to deliver it like an underhand volleyball serve. If you catch a ball that was kicked, then you get a free-kick from that spot.

  9. I've lived in Melbourne, Australia for over 30 years and still don't understand the game... but I don't worry about that... most of the Aussie's I know are just as puzzled as I am!

  10. Is it football, or fun mayhem?

  11. +1 on OldAF... Was down there, watched a game, the bartender tried to explain then gave me free beer... :-)

  12. I miss the Zuit Suits the refs used to wear. I particularly like the little dual wielding six shooter motion they use to signal a "legal" goal.
From what I can tell the rules are very similar to TEGWAR.

  13. Australian Rules Football is Blood Bowl.
