Just curious...did they ever figure out what the antikythera mechanism was for?
Goober, it was for predicting eclipses.
I think a lot of people fail to understand how exciting a discovery the antikythera mechanism was. Gears and intricate cogworks and such like didn't show up again until the 14th century. This thing would be like finding a working airplane in a Columbus-era shipwreck.
