That's the one libertarians always have problems with: surveillance proves innocence as well. The kicker is the character of the gov't doing the watching...and I admit I am very unhappy with the scum in the Whitehouse our law enforcement answers to.
I would posit that if we can't trust our gov't with lawful surveillance tools - we need to get rid of them. By violent means if necessary.
Where is this rainbow unicorn friendly, benevolent government to which you refer. I'll allow a timeframe of "the entirety of all human history" for you to search for this mythical beast within. You may have the remainder of your entire life to find it.
I won't be holding my breath.
And again you separate law enforcement from the remainder of government as if they aren't one and the same.
Oh, and glen? If the kicker is the "character" of the government doing the watching, what of my belief that a government of "good character " wouldn't be watching at all?
I dunno, Goober. The world's changed. Our enemies are so dangerous now that a handful can take out a sky scraper with 2500 people in it. Others present viable WMD threat potential. We can't afford to let them hide behind privacy laws that will give them a free shot at us. Nor can we trust our law enforcement and gov't with the surveillance tools to prevent it.
Would you prefer to be shot in the chest or the back, Goober? You're damned if ya do and damned if ya don't.
Right and wrong is often judged in the eye of the beholder.

ReplyDeleteSomethings are just wrong no matter how the "beholder" judges the situation.
