Note to readers in the Colonies: Blackpool was the sea side resort in Blighty until there were cheap flights to Tenerife. Imagine Myrtle Beach moved to Detroit, and you're picturing the right thing.

Blackpool.... 40+ years ago it was safe enough for Sunday School coach rides for a day at the fair - a long day for the kids back then, 160 miles each way...
ReplyDeleteNow it's synonymous with unemployment, crime and drug abuse. A sad decline, and I've not taken my family anywhere near the place since the mid-80s.
