Note to readers in the Colonies: Blackpool was the sea side resort in Blighty until there were cheap flights to Tenerife. Imagine Myrtle Beach moved to Detroit, and you're picturing the right thing.

    Heh, having been to both Blackpool and the Tenerife, I'd take Tenerife in a HEARTBEAT!!!

    Blackpool.... 40+ years ago it was safe enough for Sunday School coach rides for a day at the fair - a long day for the kids back then, 160 miles each way...

    Now it's synonymous with unemployment, crime and drug abuse. A sad decline, and I've not taken my family anywhere near the place since the mid-80s.
    Shades of Detroit?
