Bad planning

Married to the Sea captures the male thought process.

  1. Of course. Intelligence is what enabled the fairly weak H. sapiens to breed and survive. The drive to survive and spread genetic material is a basic tenet of life on this planet.

Life here is competitive, with each life form expanding and surviving, mostly at the expense of others.

In many species, there is largely a division of labor between sexes.

In most species where this is the case, the male donates his DNA and then forages for food and protects his mate and offspring. Why? Once he breeds, he is expendable. If he is killed fighting or foraging, his genetic material is still passed on.

The female largely conserves her energy, hoards food, and nurtures her offspring, whether that means within her body, or within the nest.

Species that do not follow this plan frequently accomplish survival different manner: they produce large numbers of offspring at once, in the hope that enough will survive to ensure the next generation.

  2. Damn straight. What's the point of being up above it all if you can't smite the mortals below while you're up there?

  5. Somewhat along the lines of Brigid's comment: when I die, I want to be cremated with two pounds of bacon, and my ashes scattered from a C130 over the middle east.
