Back now. Mom is safely home, the only excitement being where are her hearing aids?. Younger Brother is here, too.
This will be a new chapter for each of them. Mom didn't like the assisted living center, but needed someone around to look after her. Younger Brother was at a different crossroads, one that lets him stay with her to look after her.
This is a strange living situation, but hopefully one that Dad would approve of. Living alone is only longed for by those who have never done it. Those who have had the experience of the four walls closing in are lucky, even if they don't know it. She's not alone, but might still not be happy. Quite frankly, we'll have to see if she can be happy anywhere without Dad.
There is a legend in the East, the legend of the Hungry Ghosts. Those who die with an attachment to that what they can never possess, it is said, are reborn in the realm of the Hungry Ghosts. The Hungry Ghosts have huge bellies and pin point mouths; they can never consume that which they desire.

I hope everything works out well for both of them.
ReplyDeletePersonally I have long been of the opinion that there is little reason to ever live alone. Kids should stay at home until they marry. Parents should stay with kids especially after they can no longer care for themselves. Ideally every home would have 3 generations living in it at any given time. There are huge benefits including passing down wisdom, learning to care for others, less selfishness and a lack of disconnect from one's roots.
I am too much the romantic.
Best wishes for ALL of you. Major life changes and an excellent point with the ghosts...
