Jury duty
Looks like I won't be going. I was a "Standby", and looks like we're not needed. And this seems to satisfy my civic duty (without having to go down town). And it looks like I got a blog post out of it.
I maintain jury duty is second only to voting in terms of everyday civic duty. I am happy to read you went unreservedly, as jury duty is really freaking important to both sides of a case, even if you weren't selected.
On the other hand, I get annoyed with people who wriggle to get out of jury duty. Hope they never wind up at the wrong end of a jury. I would want people who understand its seriousness and are motivated to listen to my side.
Thanks for doing your part, BP, even if you weren't needed. Many cases settle upon immediately hearing there's a potential jury available--that shows how seriously you can help a BS case get thrown out even if not chosen.
Well, aren't you lucky!
ReplyDeleteAround here, if I don't have to report - meaning go down and spend the morning (at least) physically AT the courthouse - it doesn't count.
I got a notice last month, but didn't have to report (all cases that day settled), so my name could come up again any time.
