With modern technology, you could rig up something like an Arduino, a speaker, and a mike, to detect sound, and the cessation thereof from the phone and play a recorded "yes." Then you get yourself a tablet and surf the web all day!
I looked just like that when the Chief and all the Deputies got their new phones. Well into the evening they were calling each other and asking that same question.
