Perhaps your libertarian picture is of Anarchy instead. Most libertarians I know would rather we be somewhere along the linear graph of Constitutionalists rather than Anarchy. In this graph, anarchy is all the way to the left. On the far right is totalitarianism, ie., Communism, Dictators, Nazi's.
Democrats and Republicans as currently incarnated would be not too far from the right......maybe at the 3/4 mark.
Constitutionalists would be on the left maybe at the 1/4 mark.
Not trying to redefine left or right, just trying to make sense of the argument.
