Actually, this makes a lot of sense

Judge me by my size, do you?

  1. Can't be any worse than Episodes 1-3. That's all I'm sayin'.

  2. I'm hopeful. The Star Wars merchandising empire has proved to be quite powerful, respectable by comparison to The Mouse's own. Disney will give the SW properties the attention they deserve.

I think that's why they let John Carter get so screwed up - there aren't a lot of toys to be made on Barsoom.

  3. Bluesun: I wouldn't be too sure about that. Remember The Ewok Adventure?

No? There's probably a reason for that.

OTOH, there is potential, if they can keep George Lucas in a galaxy far, far away from it.

I wonder what Joss Whedon could do with it?

The heroes spend half the movie on a planet populated entirely by wise-cracking adolescent girls with ninja powers.

  6. Dave H, your internets is in the mail.

(Of course, the real question is "which lovable character would get impaled?")

That may not be a good thing. The House of Mouse has a disturbing pattern, at least in the movie biz: they produce Great Stuff over ten years or so, then they get full of themselves and forget what made that Stuff so good, and as a result they produce total dreck for the next ten-to-twenty years. Then a new gang comes in with new ideas, and produces more Great Stuff, and the cycle repeats. Look at the history of their animated films. Sometimes they don't even wait that long to follow Great Stuff with Dreck -- witness the rapid collapse of the "Pirates of the Caribbean" films.

I suppose one could argue that the Original Three were "Star Wars"'s first Great period, and the Second Three were its first Dreck period, and now it's due for its second Great period. I hope so ... but I'll not be holding my breath.

But I will say this: if the House of Mouse has any wits, they'll hire Tim Zahn to modify the Thrawn trilogy so it deals with the Original Cast's kids, and then make those the Next Three SW films. Best Star Wars novels ever written.
