The coyotes are howling

Outside the wire at FOB Borepatch.  We're in pretty built up Austin, but there's a "canyon" (a dry creek, really) that is pretty wooded, and they come up that.

With the full moon tonight and last night, their song has been something to hear.

I wonder if they have a kill.  Don't let your cats out at night, folks.  I don't wonder whether they've forgotten their place on the food chain, even here in Texas.

  4. shite, I see dead coyotes on the side of the road in Cypress. they're like racoons, highly urban adaptable.
Although they haven't figured out the vehicle moving at 55 in a posted 35 zone just yet.

  5. When we're down at the crik, you can hear them across the water 'talking' to one another... a group of them howl and bark... another group answers... then they get closer together, no doubt closing in on the pack's prey....... it's creepy.

  7. On second thought BP, that may not be coyotes that you're hearing howling at the moon. Austin is not only our state capitol, but it's also where we keep our token moonbat liberals. You may be hearing the local wildlife, but not the kind that you think... ;)

  10. Little known fact #1: There are more Coyotes in Texas today, than there were in the entire US when Columbus landed. Removal of competing predators allowed them to expand their range.

Little known fact #2: If you ever have occasion to grab one by the tail, they don't much care for it.

  11. I have not heard the pack in my neighborhood (far South Austin) in a long time. I think when the creek ran dry, they moved into Circle C to eat poodles.
