When I was a young lad, the old veterans at the Veteran's Day parade were the World War I doughboys. The World War II veterans were the town dads - police, fire fighters, scoutmasters, teachers, businessmen.
That was a while ago. Now the World War II vets are the old ones, and every year there are fewer. Many didn't live long enough to see the WWII memorial in Washington DC. Some lived to be old enough, but can't afford the trip.
Honor Flight is a non-profit organization founded to fly these veterans to Washington DC for that visit.
If you know a vet who might like to go, but who can't, contact the Honor Flight folks. Memorial Day is coming, and Time waits for no man.
Great group of folks. And yet another in a long list of reasons that I like Trace Adkins.
ReplyDeleteA bunch of folks from my church got to do that a couple years back. It's a great idea.
